018. ring - private paradise (japanese version)

PRIVATE PARADISE (JAPANESE VERSION)
Japanese 4:54
Ballad, J-Pop, Piano
from PRIVATE PARADISE (1998)

As mentioned with my Namie Amuro post earlier, producer Tetsuya "TK" Komuro has gotten around.  From Japan (Amuro, Ami Suzuki, Tomomi Kahala, hitomi, globe) to Taiwan to Hong Kong (Grace Yip) to even America (he wrote a song for the group Blaque). One of his less remembered projects was Taiwanese artist Ring (born as Lín Yú Hán in 1984).  She was discovered on a Komuro sponsored show called Komuro Maryoku.  In the spring of 1998, she released her debut single "Process" in both Japan and Taiwan.  It rose to #14 on the ORICON charts in Japan.  Ring would record two more singles before dropping her only album, TEEN'S RING.  The album was sung primarily recorded in Mandarin, and was more of a collection of re-recorded songs that had already been sung by one of Komuro's other artists.  With only one album under her belt, Ring opted to retire and focus on education.  In hindsight, Ring didn't really do much in terms of music.  I can't blame her since she was just the messenger.  "Process" carried the signature sound that TK was famous for, and frankly could have been sung by any one of his clients.  Her last single, "PRIVATE PARADISE", stood out since it was a ballad.  The saturnine nature of the track along with Ring's tiny, affected voice is truly haunting.
