004. katharine mcphee - terrified duet with zachary levi

Terrified duet with Zachary Levi
English 3:56
Acoustic Pop
from Terrified (2010)

I really hate to be one of those people who dislikes a song just because it's sung by a certain individual.  However, I don't think this is an uncommon ritual when it comes to the alumni of the disastrous American Idol series.  The very average McPhee didn't even win, which could have gone in her favor (look at that Aiken guy).  Alas no, neither of her albums have spawned major hits and she's just another failure in the Idol crowd.  Her voice desperately channels pop heiresses Christina Aguilera, minus the goat wailing, and Beyoncé on her clearer cut cookie tracks.  Originally, "Terrified" was written by Idol judge Kara Dioguardi, and then covered by contestant Didi Benami.  This boosted McPhee's sales for her version with Jason Reeves.  The label made a smart decision to cash in on this by re-recording the song, but this time with a notable male counterpart - Chuck actor Zachary Levi.  Yeah, that guy.  Frankly, Levi comes off as a bit flat, but I've heard much worse.  His appearance is more apparent than Reeves ever was on the original, though.  "Terrified" is gently emotional and vulnerable.  That in itself is a feat for any song of the radio nowadays.  Well, outside of the country charts.
